64 Power Wagon fuel gauge limiter

Post by dannymontani »

Hi guys. Can somebody tell me if the fuel gauge limiter is internal or external? Can an external be used if the internal is shot? Thought I'd order one up from Ebay that I've seen. I've seen one explanation on the web for as how to repair the internal one...but it looks much newer. Thanks

why not just buy the factory correct parts and install them and drive it. Why is it always so important to reinvent the wheel by trying to adapt other parts into the truck.

Powerwagon54 that's what I would do. Not trying to reinvent the wheel as you say. Don't need to adapt, just want it done. Thanks

the limiter is inside the fuel gauge. So just buy the fuel gauge is you are done.

I have several good used gauges. They don't make new ones if that is what you want.

Nice website you've got there powerwagon54. But I don't see just the fuel gauge (black). What would be the $$ if you have it? Thanks

Thanks for the gauge powerwagon54. It did not fix my problem though. I however am getting a little voltage to it though as the needle comes up from its off position to the E mark. I've got a 3/4 full tank of gas....checked it by putting a yardstick down the filler. Next I guess I will be pulling the sending unit as I did not see anything wrong with the wires under the dash....maybe in the harness under the cab?? dunno. F••k me.

Also is there a fuse I am missing for the dash light? Don't see anything under there, the dash. Thanks

By chance, are you having any difficulties with your temperature gauge too? :thinking

I'm going to guess its a hole in the float as it's happened to others. Lil Liquid Steel ought to fix that if its an issue.

No problems with the fuel gauge.
Does that mean it is working now?

That won't last immersed in fuel. Either solder the hole or replace the float (best).

No, the gauge is not working.

I'd be afraid of soldering what with it having had fuel in it. Where would one find a float, would you know? I've had great luck with liquid steel elsewhere..(but never used it in gasoline)
I see your from Walnut Creek. I used to live in Berkeley and SF for sometime before moving back to my old home here in Bozeman (MT) Still have friends in WC.

Soldering with a flame might be exciting but soldering with an iron would be pretty benign. You can get the ford float, a styrofoam piece, that snaps right into the wire arm.
Been in WC 52 yrs so we probably passed in one of the freeway hell traffic jams.

So I ordered a replacement float here (it is supposed to work);
Summit Racing
Scott Drake replacement sending unit component (float only); COAZ-9202-B. where the first o is supposedly an oh not a zero. $5.85
This part is for a mustang.
Summit racing part no; SDK-COAZ-9202-B

Brass float. Overall diameter is 1.25 in. The diameter of the retainer rest grove is 1 in.

I went to the local Ford dealership and got the same one for mine and didn't have a problem. Looked exactly the same.
