1969 D100 blower speed switch removal

Hey all.
Looking for an assist on how to remove the speed control switch for the blower motor from the dash. Mine decided the other day that it wasn't going to engage any more, so now I'm stuck with a fan that constantly blows on 'low' whenever the key is switched on. It looks like the switch is screwed onto the HVAC control assembly, but I can't figure out how to get the assembly out of the dash in the first place. Are there retaining screws hidden on the back side of the dash panel that I need to remove first? I took a look under there as best as I could, but without a mirror I can't see much of the back side because it's fairly cramped under there.

No. The assembly that I'm referring to is the bracket for the cables that control air flow/temperature. Is there a difference for how it's removed if you have A/C?

Yes, there is a difference. Your's has 4 nuts on the backside that you have to access behind the dash. Not fun.....

Damn, I was afraid of that.
You're supposed to tell me that it's an easy removal because there's some simple trick to pop the assembly out!

I usually rip the glove box out and reach in with a nutdriver. But that's a truck in a junkyard...

Well that is a simple trick. Unfortunately my glovebox is still in decent shape and I'd like to keep it that way

Maybe I can pull the radio and have the girlfriend go in through that opening. She's got bitty little hands.

Its either 5/16" or 3/8" IIRC.
