64-65 tail light housing removal
Anyone know how to remove the round tail light housing on a 64-65 D200? Do I have to drill out these rivets?
Thanks

Yes, if its riveted. Are you sure they're not studs with nuts on the back?

Re: 64-65 tail light housing removal
My first thought was that the rivits are holding some kind of spring clip, but I tried prying out the housing with no luck. I don't see any way to access the back side of the housings to see what is actually back there. I guess I can remove the rivets and rebuild it after I get it all out.
Anyone else have suggestions before I do this? Thanks

Thanks soopernaut, I tried the search feature, but didn't find that post. I must have searched for Taillight, instead of Tail Light.
I will give it a yank and see what happens.

I pried and pulled and here is what I found.
There are three clips that hold the housing in. all three broke when I remove the housing. The stud goes top center and keeps the housing from turning.

Re: 64-65 tail light housing removal
As I vaguely remember, I think I completely removed the clips and used a hole clip on the 3 body holes for the lens. Those secured the light base and lense to the body.

Re: 64-65 tail light housing removal
I decided to replace my tail light housings since they were rusty and bent up. I picked up a pair of the Peterson M425s trailer lights.
I had to open up the tail light holes a little, and trim down the new housing a little. I also picked up a new pair of lens' and gaskets.
It will all look stock from the outside.

Re: 64-65 tail light housing removal
I did something similar on my '63 which had International Truck tail lights poorly installed. I ordered 24 LED rear rubber mounted housings, and installed them. I had to trim opening in the same way, but the rubber housing fit fine in the factory stamping.
