1969 Speedometer question

Post by Jims68 »

Someone had emailed me about their speedometer unit in a 69 D-100. It hasn't work for years. I told him to check the cable first. My question is... he seems to think that "IF" he had to get another speedo, is there a way to take his ODOMETER out and put it in the new cluster? OR is it better to just "leave it alone"?

Can you remove the front plastic and clean the face of the speedo??

Also, can you remove the gauges and speedo from the UNIT itself?

I KNOW I can with my 68, but the 69-71 units are different and I cannot answer him on that, so that is why I am asking here for him.

The odometer can be reset to match the one removed if that is the reason for the question.

Well, that wasn't really the basis of the question.... his speedo did stop working, but hasn't really looked into it (I told him to check cable first). Then he asked me about "IF" he bought another speedo unit, would he be able to clean it because his looks very nice and he didn't want a shabby unit in his newly refinished truck. I'll pass on the Odometer info too! Thanks Terry! :salut
