HD Gauges Wiring Question

Post by daveleast »

None of the HD gauges on my 65 PW have ever worked since I bought it. I finally decided to pull them out and have a look, and they were a bit of a mess. It looks like at least 2 wires have been clipped and I'm not sure if all the others were plugged in correctly in the first place. Anyone have advise on how to test them? Also - I assume the HD gauges have a different wiring diagram but not certain. Does anyone know? Appreciate everyone's feedback!

Dave, the wires clipped off look like the ground wire to the pod for instrument lights. Each pod, speedometer, tach should have ground wire to it. The open holes look like light bulb is missing. The fuel and temp gauge work off the 12/5 volt limiter on the back of amp, fuel gauge pod. I would check that first when checking fuel and temp gauge. The tach should have switched power to it, a ground wire to shell and a line out to the coil.

What is the gauge to the lower right of instruments. Looks like vacuum maybe?

Thanks so much for the advice! Yes, that's a vacuum gauge off to the right. I haven't pulled it out yet.
