Hello Sweptliners,
Do any of you have first hand experience with this round back alternator upgrade? Shortly I'll be upgrading the wiring per the MAD modification to eliminate the ameter, etc. Since my 69 W100 has dealer installed AC, I'd like to upgrade the alternator output at the same time. I'm not sure the square back alternator will fit without bracket mods, and the AC compressor is close, so I'd rather keep the round back if possible. Since the truck is low mileage and still pretty original I want to stay away from the 10si.

Not much if any help but about 10 years ago I replaced mine with an 110 amp alternator originally installed on a Jeep. Can't recall the details. Still going strong with no problems.

Also not a direct answer to your specific question,
But i just ordered the 80a kit for my squareback alternator from the same store,
to upgrade sometime in the future.
I just had my whole alternator apart to replace the diodes and it looks very straightforward to install the kit components.
Unfortunately for you, whereas the roundback has lots of soldered connections, all the squareback parts bolt on.
My truck is also a 69, but was upgraded from roundback in the past.
i dont think the brackets or location are any different.. i dont have ac though.

Cole,
Thanks for your reply. Please let me know what the quality of the kit you ordered turns out to be. Since it's the same company it may be an indicator of the quality of the upgrade kit. It figures it would be tougher to upgrade the round back, seems like I always end up on the harder path;-).

I just put a square back on my 70 with 383 and factory AC, PS, PB. No issues with fit. Where do you think the issue will be? Craig
