Post by Brudog »

Would anyone be able to tell me the part number for the rear side markers for a 70-71 Sweptline bed? :thinking

I was going to see if I could locate some NOS or used side markers, but wanted to make sure what I found will actually fit on my truck bed before I purchase them.

I will keep your LED clearance lights in mind though. Thanks for the input. :Thumbsup

Hi Jim,

The above is partly correct, depending on what you are trying to do, or match...

There are two kinds of side marker lamps, each has a different finish on the plastic bezel:

The more common is an "argent" (silver) paint-style finish
Red: 3489894 and takes the round snap-in socket

The less common is the chromed (mirror-like) plastic finish
Red: w/housing is 3489350 and has the built-in lamp base
Red: lens only 3579181

Look around a bit on the Internet and you might find example pictures,

You can find used ones off 70s Era dodge vans. They are a little different. Mine were gone/broke. Went to wrecking yard and found some good ones off van. They use the same bulbs. Same bolt holes. They look oe to the untrained eye.

I don't believe these were ever available on Sweptline era trucks.

The chrome bezels? I am confident they were factory parts used on hiline trim models.

The information above is out of the parts book, for D-W 100, 200 & 300... for 70-71.

I've seen them too often for them not to be:
The '71 Dude has them, and they appear to be original (as is rest of truck);
The '71 Sport Adventurer has them, and it is an untouched survivor;
The '70 Camper Special has them - based on the rest of the truck, I'd say they were original; and
The '71 W200 has them - but I know the body was pieced together, so figure they were not original to W chassis.

Some of my sales materials show obvious chrome-bezel side marker lights, too.

Interestingly, the parts book number and the actual lenses I have are two different numbers. I have the plastic chrome bezel on my 70 adventurer, all 4 bezels with single stud wiring read part number 2958061 on back of part. The lenses I have without mounting holes (snap into bezel) read, 2958062 (red lense),(parts book 3579181), 2958059 (amber lense),(parts book 3579180). I also have lenses with mounting holes, 3489368 (red, 3489367 (amber).
