Brake lights

Post by 1surfer »

Working on my brake light situation. Starting with making sure my grounds are good. I took the brake light out and soldered a wire to the metal where the wires enter the light housing then ran that wire to the frame and attached it to bare metal.

Do the wires detach from the tail light housing at the tail light housing ?

Not right at the socket. There is a plug a bit further down the
wire.

I did ground the socket. Still no brake lights. I may try and replace the 4 tail light wires today. They are all cracked and weather checked.

My clutch works great though ...

Why don't :thinking you start at the steering column and see if you have power at the wires going up,into the turn signal switch and down from there. :thinking

I have not checked it that way. My tail lights and turn signals do work. I installed a new brake light switch and it works and there is power to that switch. It's just not making it to the brake lights. Spending time chasing it today.

If turn signals work at the bulbs and no brake lights when pedal depressed, The problem is near the column. :thinking

Thank you. That was very insightful.

I woodna thunk to check there.

There is a chance that the brake light switch I purchased is bad.

Will do more recon in that general area soon ...
