I have a 1968 W100.
I am replacing the speedometer cable.
I ordered this one from NAPA. Part # BK 6151661
It is the same one as the picture on EZ St. under W100.
In the picture the end that goes to the transfer case has a silver screw on type attachment.
The speedometer end in the ones shown are a plastic snap in place type of attachment.
The one that I just took of my truck is a screw on type attachment at the speedometert, just like the one at the other end just smaller.
I tried sliding the new end on the speedometer part but it won't even slide on.
Is there another part number or a cable available with a screw on attachment at the speedometer end ?

Re: Speedometer cable
You should look on Ebay for one. I tried the auto parts store route and
they all either had one like yours or something too short to make it to
the t-case.

Re: Speedometer cable
I found one at Vintage Power Wagons. They said that there were different cables for the same year.

Re: Speedometer cable
this is what i bought. works great. it turned out to be an autoparts store local to me so i even went and picked it up. if you dont want to buy from him, it has a part number in the title you can use to research.

Re: Speedometer cable
That one from belair2door (like vin posted, from eBay) is perfect, fit my '71 W200 well and has done good for some time now. I provided that Mopar part number for him, so beware it is for '69-'71. Smooth speedo!

Re: Speedometer cable
Piston RIng or NAPA has them relativly inexpensive. I've heard it may be worthwhile to get a stainless steel lined master/slave for increased longevity. It's come up several times on different topics, a quick search should give lots of information on it.

Re: Speedometer cable
I have read about the SS lined ones. They sound great but are quite a bit more expensive. I got the NAPA one for now and will get the stainless one when we do a upgrade / performance restoration in a year or two.
We just got the truck about a month ago. Most of it is pretty nice. I does still require funding for a few things. Next step is to take all 3 drive shafts out including the yokes and take all of that to a drive train shop and get it all in order.
I know that I need the 2 yokes on the front of the transfer case and I'm pretty sure that I need the one on the rear diff. Prolly do all of the U joints.
That little project will probably be a thousand or so. Ouch.
I can pull it all out and put it back in but I'm need the services of a drive line shop to make sure its all good. The closest one with good references is about 90 miles from here. I don't know what will be more painful. The money it will cost for the work, or having to go into the city, twice...
We are calling this round #1, the "Bedder Than It Wuz " round. Getting things in great working order. Some of this may involve buying parts with economy in mind.
Round #2 will be the " Now lets try this " round ... This will be when we buy parts with maximum performance.
I am guessing that the Napa one will last a couple of years.
