Electronic Ignition for 1961 Poly Engine

Post by rlepore2002 »

I have a 1961 D100 with a 318 poly engine and assuming factory distributor (the body is aluminum with a 1838505 id number on it). I have read that the Pertronix may or may not work in a 318 poly distributor is that true? If that is the case do I purchase a used or after market distributor for a later year and out the Pertronix unit in that? Or will the Mopar Performance unit work and where would I locate one? I saw a MP on Ebay, but the seller said it would not work on 318 poly?? Any thoughts would help. Thanks.

I run the MoPar Performance electronic ignition system in all of my Sweptlines.
I am sure the 318 version will work in your Poly. :study

Any recommendations on where to purchase the setup or a knowledgeable vendor to contact to confirm compatibility? Sounds like you can not purchase directly from Mopar Performance anymore. Thanks.

Txas2step that looks like a pretty good deal. What make of distributor is with that kit. I have been looking at mopar performance setup kit since I am not sure what condition the original dizzy is in. Would you recommend this kit offer the mopar performance? Thanks.

They are made in China. In my '67 and the '66 d200 I sold recently. Work great. Origin doesn't bother me ,until it breaks.

The Mopar Performance unit for the LA small block will work perfectly. Plus, you'll have a new dizzy! Did that in my '64 W200 (A-318 engine) over 20 years ago. For a graphic of how to wire it, see my post on all things electrical at:
