Front marker/turn signal lights-1969 D100

I have a quick question for you electrical gurus out there; are the front turn signals supposed to be lit up with the switch is set for running lights or headlights? Or should they only kick on when the turn signal is activated? Mine don't turn on, regardless of the position of the headlight switch, and it seems odd that the truck doesn't have any running lights on the front. The bulbs are both fine, and they're single filament (so no option for a low power running light/high power blinker).
I'm just curious is they were swapped at some point, or if the truck just never had front running lights.

Thanks!

Not a guru :idea

but they do not have running lights, just turn signals. I think Kim wired his in with the tail light circuit to create running lights but it was not factory. Not sure if 70/71 changed

Thanks.
That's what I thought, but this truck has had a couple of....unusual.....alterations done to it, so I wouldn't have been surprised to find out that they had been reworked/swapped at some point.

I did wire the lights on my 66 W100 to come on with headlights. Just a short jump in harness.

Hey I have a 69 d100 that I believe to be mostly stock:

The amber grille lights do come on but only in the first position of the headlight switch... In the second switch position the amber lights turn off and the headlights come on

They always operate normally as turn signals too

Someone rewired your lights then.

My 69 is exactly the same way, has been since purchased in 9/04. Stock headlight switch and front end wiring. When the new harness is finalized the truck will have modern lighting. 1970s Ford switch, EZ harness, dual filament bulb sockets. Will also run a 1973 F100 360FE coil and solenoid to defeat the ballast resistor and Mopar "time bomb/fuse" relay.

The running lights to the front are first notch only if you have stock truck components. With a car switch the lights work in either notch.

69 park lights do not come on with the headlights. That changed in 1970. Jim

Dash lights.

My 49 Dodge has separate switches for panel, park and headlights.

See the first topic in my lengthy treatise on the light switch, and other electrical stuff, for a dissection of how the headlight switch works. You can wire up about anything to come on if you know how the switch works. See also the later topic on cab lights.
