Single VS Double ballast resistors?

Post by Jims68 »

What is the difference between the SINGLE and DOUBLE ballast resistors? So, could I use the ONE side of a double ballast resistor? and if that goes bad switch to the other side? OR are they just all together different?

They are different, one side of the resistor for the ignition coil is 1-1.5 ohms, the other side for the ECU is 5 ohms. The single and dual resistor have the same resistance for the ignition, so you can use the dual if needed, but only one side. I'd stick with the single and put a spare one in your glove box.

Dual ballast resistors are for 5-wire ECU's.
single ballast resistors are for 4-wire ECU's.
You can use a 4-wire ECU on a 5-wire vehicle but not a 5wire ECU on a 4-wure vehicle.
The 4-wire ECU has the other resistor built into it.
