wiper motor question

Post by 712edf »

I have this Prestolite wiper motor, I believe to be 2 speed. How do I check to see if it works? I can turn the crank by handle, so it"s not seized up.
Has 2 plugs, each with 2 wires. Which one(s) do I ground & which get power to test it?
It's from a 65 medium duty & looks to be original.
Thanks,
Bucky

I didn't think about the motor/frame being grounded, but makes sense.
One plug has a red wire & yellow wire. The other plug has a black wire & a grayish green wire.
Thanks,

Ground motor/frame and switch together if your checking everything. Won't work properly without grounding all of it. You need switch to see if it also parks correctly.

That's the problem. No switch.

This is from Shop Manual under BENCH TESTING MOTOR Variable Speed (4 Wire Motor)

(1) Connect a jumper wire between the wiper motor yellow wire and the wiper motor ground strap.
Connect another jumper between the battery negative terminal and the wiper motor ground strap.
Connect another jumper between the wiper motor red and black wires and the battery positive terminal.
The wiper motor should run continuously in the wipe direction.

(2) Connect a jumper wire between the wiper motor blue and yellow wires and the battery positive terminal.
Connect another jumper between the wiper motor red wire and the wiper motor ground strap.
Connect another jumper between the battery negative terminal and the wiper motor ground strap.
The wiper motor should run in reverse and stop at the park position.
