1961 D100 Brake Light Issue

Post by rlepore2002 »

Brake lights worked prior to replacing master cylinder. I replaced my master brake clyinder and took off the brake light switch from the old unit. Got the master clyinder back on and bled the system. Plugged in the wires and it did not work. Replaced end connectors and still did not work. Unrolled the electric tape and noticed power wire had bent/cut. Unrolled the rest of the tape to expose the 2 wires. Are there fuses somewhere on the 61 to replace. Getting about 3-6 volts from the power wire. All other lights works, don't really know where to start. Any help would be great.

No fuses on the '61. Do you have brake lights when you connect the 2 wires? ...should be red to white. If lights come on, then may be a problem with the switch. :2cents

No brake lights when I connect the 2 wires. I think I have a bad ground or power wire. I am going to try to go from the battery to the brake switch with a known ground and power to see if I can eliminate the switch being the problem, I should replace at some point anyways. Everything was working before I did the replacement, so the power wire got clipped some how from being moved around. If I can confirm the switch works I will track down were the power gets lost.

Got the brake lights working again. Replaced old and corroded wires going from the wire terminal to the switch. Guess you don't move forward without trying.
