So i just drove my 69' camper special w200 700 miles to my house everything ran great accept the issue of over charging but it didnt appear to have hurt anything.

so yesterday i replaced the alternator and starter relay. But i cant seem to find the voltage regulator.

But this morning i got up for work warmed up the truck and flipped the switch for the lights and, no headlights but taillights and marker lights still work, so i replaced the dimmer switch and the headlight switch still nothing. so what do you guys think, did i blow up the lights do to over charging or what?

Use a meter to check for current reaching the headlights and then check the ground side .

When you were replacing the starter relay, it is just "possible" that you may have pulled out one of the wires on the firewall 'junction' box. Check to make sure ALL wires are firmly pushed IN. Just a thought....

Thanks guys after spending time tracing wires I discovered I did not have a voltage regulator in the system at all.

So today I install one and changed all the fuses and bulbs. Now everything works. But when I started the truck it idles the same but as soon as I press on the gas pedal the engine coughs and dies, or it back fires so bad it shoots flames. Any ideas?

Some things you could check.... :study
1)Timing not set
2)Bad timing due to stretched chain
3)Worn out accelerator pump
4)Choke not properly working
5)Fuel/Air mix not set properly
6)Combination of some of the above

I'm sure others will put up some suggestions as well. :Thumbsup

Check the condition of the points if the distributor used has points. Back firing through the carb to me means either a timing problem or crossed plug wires.

timing off from streched chain or could be a lobe worn off cam.

check the capacitor on the distributor as well. I knew of a another vehicle that did the same thing and it was the capacitor.

Yeah,i would imagine overcharging could be super hard on points and condensers.
