are the parking lights supposed to light up???

Post by optcynbassist »

I have a '62 D100 and I was wondering if the parking lights are supposed to be on when I switch the headlights on. I've tried finding some pics of any sweptlines with their headlights on but I can't find any. I plan on converting all the bulbs to LED and installing resistors but I'd like to make sure what's supposed to be on or off beforehand. Thanks for any help, it's greatly appreciated! :salut

Parking lights didn't stay "On" in the headlight "On" position until 1968 models, at least in passenger cars.

It was 1970 with trucks. It was a Federal requirement, starting in that year for them. Before that, when they were called parking lamps, that is when they came on...on the first pull. It was considered impolite to drive through a parking lot with your headlights on, so they would not shine in oncoming drivers' eyes; so that is how "parking lights" and "driving lights" came about.

If you want them to be on you just need to wire to rear taillight circuit. My 66 has been changed to have them on with headlights.
