Have '65 A-100 170 Slant six; has had multiple owners. Am looking for advice on rewire and about ballast incorporated with new Alternator Regulator? Was started with outside power source and turned over a few times B4 no more.. . old porcelain ballast cracked; Wondering since wiring was fried if needing new Solenoid also? or install new Alt, Alt/reg, starter and wires to Ammeter and ignition switch. . .

do you still have points? and cheap as they are I would throw a new starter relay on it .take the starter off and have it tested/repaired. check your battery too. it should get you cranking again.

I have done this a couple times now. I get a 70's car or truck engine harness and use just the electronic ignition and electronic regulator wiring, plugged into the original feed wire for the mechanical regular. Cheap and easy using factory parts.

Make sure your wiring is correct. Use a voltmeter (DCvolts) and check your wiring, key off.
Then turn key to Run position (engine not running) and test again.
Keep track of these readings.

Test anywhere you want,, but I would start at the battery, and follow every wire from there, especially around the parts you are having difficulty with.

Let us know what you find out.
