switching alternators

Post by billsdodges »

has anyone switched out the current 69-71 alternator and charging system with a GM alternator and 1 wire charging system. my 68 PW has been giving me fits with pulsating and charging. made an adjustment on the older voltage reg and just about burnt up the wiring under the dash. I have a GM alt ready to go on but I have to figure out new brackets to make everything line up, any thoughts

Anyone that has a charging issue always leans towards the G M alt. 40 Years I have had MOPARS and never have I not been able to find the problem with charging systems. :shame

The fact that you burned up some wires is indicative of bad/corroded connections with a high resistance. It's likely that the alt is fine, and your problem is with the harness/bulkhead connector.
