not charging
not charging
Ok I have read the posts about the charging diagrams and looked up the diagram but all my wiring as far as I know checks out alternater checks out but still cant find my problem . My question is when the wire comes out of the vr where does it go and how does it charge the battery . And from where .1971 318
Re: not charging
Updating this post . The green wire off the alternater goes to vr. As soon as I unplug it my voltage gauge on the dash .goes to the middle. When I plug it back in it discharges .
Re: not charging
Do you have these wires connected to your alternator?welder77 wrote:Updating this post . The green wire off the alternater goes to vr. As soon as I unplug it my voltage gauge on the dash .goes to the middle. When I plug it back in it discharges .

Re: not charging
Your basing that you have no charge cause the gauge shows a discharge. You would be best to see what is happening at the BAT Pos post. Maybe the gauge was unhooked and wires reversed. Time to get out a meter.
Re: not charging
I used a meter on it not charging at the battery either when I unplug the green wire from alt and test lite the post I got power . Plug in green wire to the alt post I lose power to green wire
Re: not charging
When voltage is low,the green wire (field wire)becomes grounded at the VR.This causes your alternator to start charging. Is your battery fully charged ? How many volts do you have on the black wire with key on?
Re: not charging
Battery is fully charged. Black wire I havent checked voltage at. Yet but test light works. Ill get my ohm meter on it and see
