Got a starter relay from the parts store and it has 2 spades instead of 1 spade. Book says that 65 and newer used the 2 spade starter relay. am I right in thinking that the 2nd spade is a ground? Would I be able to just cut this spade out and use it as a one spade starter relay?? Should I make a ground wire for it and update my relay if this is simple a ground spade.

starter relay
Re: starter relay
All of my manual tranny Sweptlines have the single spade relay.

OK,
Wiring diagrams show this 2nd spade to be a ground. I think Im going to use it, wire it to my pig tale on the negative battery cable that is not in use. This will ensure that if mounting bolts on starter relay get loose, or rusty, makes no difference as I have a wired in ground.
Price of the single spade relay was 5 bucks more than the dual spade relay.

Re: starter relay
I just made a jump wire from spade to relay mounting point.
now that I have an auto, i use it for the neutral safety.
