Wiper Motor Changes..

Post by HellBelly »

I know my '69 and my '70 have a two speed motor; I guess i should say switch. Low and HI.

What was the difference back in the 61-68 trucks? Did they not have Low and Hi as well? The dash switches are different animals for sure.

What am i missing here? Looks to me like the wiring is the difference?

my 64 has a wiper that is variable in speed - meaning the switch would turn on the wipers in a slow wipe and then as you dial up the switch it would speed up the motor increasing the wiper action.

interesting... All the trucks that I've driven have only had three positions on the switch.... Off, Low and Hi.

I'll have to go look at these trucks again and see if i can tell what that variable switch looks like. Do you have a picture of one Ben? What i'm wanting to do is try and stick one in my '69.

the switch is the biggest tell. the switch has an off position and then you twist it on and after that it move like the light dimmer.

i think it has three wires and the wiper motor is unique as well.

i will try to snap a photo tonight for you.

I'll go look at the trucks i have as well and see if i have one. I guess it was an option that needed to be checked off when ordered.

Mine is similar in that it turns on then is like a light dimmer. I can really only tell 3 different speeds though, slow, really slow, and slowest.

Of course if I have the heater fan going, the lights on and the wiper going, I can make it crawl so slow you can almost perceive it moving.

i rain-x the buh-jebus out of my windshield so i don't have to use the wipers much and avoid scratching the new glass.

i guess i have a touch of OCD now...

mine works pretty well though - slow is fairly slow and it ramps up to fast-enough-to-fling-off-any-loose-blades fast.

then again my electrical system is pretty hardy with a modern-era electronic voltage regulator and a new harness with a specific ground wire for each component - when i hit the brake i can see the reflectors on the pavement bounce light back in my mirrors for at least 500 feet back...

Hmmmm, mine only has one speed (slow).? Can you call 'stopping' another speed, then it has 2 speeds.!
I was wondering if the switch was kaputting itself. But the truck came with an extra wiper motor on the
back seat floor....

My 64 only has one speed. My 66 and my two 69s have 2 speeds.
