MAF sensor
Does my 2001 318 slt have a MAF sensor, and if so, where is it located??
Re: MAF sensor
We mainly play with the '61 to'71 Dodge trucks around here so I don't know how much help you'll get. I do know that Mopar's fuel injection systems are "speed density" based and use a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor, I doubt that there';s a mass air sensor in there anywhere.
Generally mass air sensors are located between the air filter and throttle body.

Re: MAF sensor
That must be the switch on the throttle body I've been told about, seems there is a hole or port that sometimes gets stopped up and needs cleaned. I'll look into it, thanks.
I've got my '69 to play with, it's so much easier to work on.

What kind of problems are you having? You're describing the AIS motor (controls idle speed) which can seize up.TedWitt wrote:seems there is a hole or port that sometimes gets stopped up and needs cleaned. I'll look into it, thanks.
Check over at allpar.com, there's lots of EFI stuff to read through.

Re: MAF sensor
My gas milage went from 19 new to 13 now, I'm trying to figure out why.

Re: MAF sensor
Those are prone to blow the plenum gasket. This will cause failed emissions, loss of oil (it goes into the manifold), pinging under load, and decreased mileage and performance. Look through your throttle body into the manifold and see if it is oily under there. If it is it is most likely blown. You can also run a vacuum check on it as well to verify. Does it still idle properly?

Re: MAF sensor
You can take it to your local auto parts store and see what the code is to point you in the right direction. Of course you have to wait until the light is on. Or if you have a code reader yourself. Check all your vacuum hoses for cracks too. Sometimes they will leak when it's cold and not when it's warm or visa versa.

Re: MAF sensor
On the 2001 you turn the key off and on three times then leave it on the third time and read the code where the odometer is. I can't remember the code number, but it's in the book. I think it is 58 or something. I looked it up and couldn't make it go away. It went away on it's own. A couple times I took it to O'Riley and use their code reader.
Re: MAF sensor
19-13 MPG would be nice in my truck
