fuel and temp gage

Post by rd200 »

my fuel guage and temp gage pegged out fuel was on way to full and temp was way to high. I started to smell a slight wire burning smell. About 5 mins later they both went dead. No readings at all. This is on my 1965 D-200 Everything else on electric works great. Any suggestions...

Thanks...Rhio

I believe there is a voltage limiter that plugs into the back of the instrument panel, it limits the voltage to those two gauges to about 5 volts. It does this by pulsing. Looks like a little carb float, pushes right in. At least this is how the 70's truck instrument panels are set up.

Bad news is both your gauges are probably toast by now. :banghead

I admit I am not up to the specifics of how the gauges work on the sweptline era trucks.

The voltage regulator is built into the fuel gauge, yours has failed. New gauge time and quick, otherwise you'll burn the temp and oil gauges seeing as they're getting 12 volts instead of 5

There's several threads about this in the electrical section.
