junk yard finds

Post by sweptlinemike »

Ive been reading a bit on the topic of converting to electronic ignition, today I went to the junkyard and found a 79 Plymouth somethin or another and found where it looked as if the distributer was converted to electronic. I just started pulling parts, not knowing exactly what i'm getting ,but knowing its tied into the distributer. The distributer looks like new, im not sure what the other parts are, perhaps a voltage regulator and ballast resistor. I need some help identifying these parts, and a diagram on connecting them. Any assistance would be wonderful. By the way I got all the parts for only 20 bucks!

You got everything! and then some.
The distributor and ignition module are easy to identify. :joker
The small ceramic part is the ballast.
The silver box with 2 wires is the voltage regulator.
The orange box is probably a lean burn controller? Don't need it.

Summit has a copy of the installation instructions for the Mopar conversion kit online.

The Mopar instructions will walk you through, step 1, 2, 3...

The parts in the Mopar kit are the same as you pulled off. The wiring is real simple.
I think Jeff has a simplified diagram in his picture collection. I believe the link is

If that is a lean burn distributor, I think it will need the advance curve tweaked.

regarding the voltage regulator, here is the current one i have, do i use the same wires from the harness and splice them into the new one? The one on my truck looks pretty rough, perhaps a newer one will work better??

The orange box is an EGR timer. You don't need it.
