Electricl glitches

Post by leo1287 »

Hello all,
My new 66 Power Wagon W200 has some problems. The headlight switch works intermittently, the blower switch stopped all together, and probably the rest will have tantrums soon. Is there a source for these or has someone done inspired replacements.
Thanks, Dwayne

Headlight switch can be had new from Napa. There is a trick to pulling
the HL switch, there is a button on the side of the switch that releases
the knob so it can be pulled out of the switch. You may have to pull
the guage set out to find it, but it is there, and must be depressed it
to pull the knob out of the switch; the knob is not included with the
new switch.
There is anouther possablity that needs to checked on the HL
switch, sometimes the high low beam switch will be the problem.
These get water in them sometimes and will give you problems,
be sure to check it also. New ones are also made of these.
Blower switch can not had new, but you need to find out if it is the switch or
the blower, if you run 12v strait to the blower will it still work?
The blower switch also has a button that releases the knob.
There is a reostat the sometimes burns out on the switch
that gives the blower the high/low settings and any switch
will work in a pinch if you don't mind it being on full blast.
Otherwise you will have to find a used one.

I make it a practice to clean all plug-ins on the fire wall were the
wire harness passes though, both sides, and treat them with battery
post spray, keeps the connections nice and clean and also keeps
and voltage passing with out loss do to poor contacts.

Thanks Jeff,
Will check everything out. Everything worked a week ago and then they started getting tricky. Even though the truck only has 86,000 on it sitting for extended periods is not good for any vehicle. Lots of seal leaks, also.
