What did I do???

Post by centralwildcat »

Hey all, I went to swap out my 69 d200 gauges for a later HD set... I wired everything up, had a smoke show...
:censored :banghead Good thing I labeled everything before I took it off.....
SO, I said "F" it and I put the old/orginal cluster back in...now when I turn the key, I dont get any engine firing...it fired off before without problem. I can say that I have power to my turn signals, wipers, dash lights.
Suggestions??? mattc

There is a fusible link in the harness that you probably toasted. It will need to be replaced. Recheck your connections and grounds, and go from there

cranking but no fire? or no cranking?

On a 69 could be fuseable link......
should be in the harness to the firewall
plug under the hood....often a blue or red wire

could be ballast, it would want to fire
when starting and then die as soon as
you turn the key to 'run'.....

Smoke show

Post by centralwildcat »

No luckily the smoke show was just the wire that I fried, from the tach... I had it wired the wrong way.
So now it wont even crank over...its like I turn the key on, and all I get is the power I would normally get as if the key was in the "accesory" position.... I saw a fusable link under there somewhere, I'll go check that! Thanks, mattc

I couldn't find the fuseble link...did end up changing the ballast resitor on GP...I used my tester light and found that I have juice to the ignition, but still nothing when I turn the key....just the acceroies coming on...
any other thoughts???? :banghead :banghead [/quote]
