Help! I need a starter!

Post by 67D100 »

My 67 D-100 puked out its starter recently. It's a 383 with a 3 on the tree. According to the data tag on the door jamb, this is the original drivetrain combo. I went to Napa and tried 2 different starter but only 1 was semi close. (still wouldn't work though) It is a 2 bolt mounted starter but very short, (similar to the Slant 6 starter). Any help in finding one would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :usa

Not sure will work but I bought a mini starter from these people for my Dart and if the one in the truck goes I'd buy one again.
Perhaps somebody knows if it will fit BB.

You should have the same starter as in mine. Only the correct direct drive starter will work. Thanks to Jeffc I was able to find a reman pretty easy. Endurance brand #3252. I still have the old one in the box.

Robin,

His rig should have the direct drive starter with the hydraulic bell. ONLY one of those starters will work. :banghead :pale

Thanks for the clarification. I'll give all these suggestions a whirl. I haven't seen a big block/3 on the tree combo on any sweptline yet. Is this a true oddball or what? Thanks again!

That combo isn't widely seen. My good friend is
restoring a '70 Road Runner with an original
383/3spd manual [floor] set up.... quite rare
in the muscle cars :study

How about 3 on the trees behind a 318 in a swept? I've mostly seen them on /6's and the 435's behind the V8's.

I have had a couple trucks with the 318 with the 3 on the tree, I wouldnt say they are rare, at leats not like a 383 with the three on the tree.
I hate those direct drive old starters, no way to uprgrade either, unless you find a newer bell.

HOORAY starter fixed!

Thanks to RR and Jeff C for the correct part # and everyone else who replied! The 3252 part # is the right # if you have my weirdo 3 on the tree setup. Called up Napa and layed that part # down and POOF, what do you know, they do have that starter. I don't know what it's like in other states, but here, if the part # isn't in their handy dandy computer, they'll swear it doesnt exist. I love this site, what a great group y'all are! My 383 is startin' up more than once a day now, Thanks again! :clap

Pat,
Sorry I missed your question :banghead . I happen
to own a '68 D100 with the LA318/A745 set up. They
were actually a common offering :Thumbsup
