wierd problem

I've had this very wierd intermittant problem with my gauges.

Its rather hard for me to explain this so bear with me

scenario one:
my fuel gauge is incorrect, it goes to half way for a full tank.
My oil gauge is low and my temp gauge is correct.

scenario two:
gas gauge works right ans shows correct fuel level
oil gauge is normal
Temp gauge is twice what it should be.

I removed what looked like a little wire extension off of my temp sending unit when i first got it and when I replaced the sender.

Now my gauges on my truck switch like that ever other day or so.

What could this be?

Did that wire actually make a difference?

Is the oil pressure gauge manual or electric?
and what year truck?
may be a grounding problem with the dash gauge set,
but might be some other problem to, does your
gauge set have a ground wire to the back of
the set housing? should be a white wire attached
to housing by a philips screw.

1. electric
2. 1969
3. I've replaced the dash once and the wire was correctly replaced.

Are you sure that you replaced the sending unit with a
proper oms unit? why I ask is if the other gauges read
low and temp reads right (1)and then the others read
right and temp reads high (2) that would explain that
part.
All 3 gauges run off the fuel gauge voltage limiter built
into the fuel gauge.
What I hear is here is a voltage verance ether in supply
to fuel gauge, or by the voltage limiter (voltage regualtor)
built into the fuel gauge, or a voltage drain in that part
of the system somewere. It still can be a grounding
issue and I would run a new ground wire from gauge
pod frist to the fire wall at least and see if that helps,
then check all ground points and clean them all and if no help then......
Were I would start is with the sender you replaced
and just unplug it and see if it changes how the fuel
and oil gauge respond, if they respond right then
it's got to be in that part of the system.
I would also check feed wire off the key that feeds the gauges to make sure that voltage
is constent at 12+ volts and clean all plugs on the fire wall if it hasn't
been done for sometime, if not 12+ then it maybe a key switch.
I would work my way back the doing the same with the other gauges from there switching from plug on sender and then a the gauge back on each.

alright, i had to read it twice. but I will check it out reall soon.
