I'm looking to install a modern, shunted ammeter.
Most are rated a -60 thru +60 amps
Since i have a 65 amp alternator, can i safely use the aforementioned Ammeter?
Does it pull the max amps thru the meter, or only the drawn amps?
thanks all
RW

Re: Ammeter Questions
The 60 amp shunted amp meter should do fine based on the the rating of the alternator. The gauge will only see the load being used.

thank you very much
Re: Ammeter Questions
Have you found a replacement ammeter that installs in the original dash location or are you installing a stand alone gauge?
Re: Ammeter Questions
i am interested to any answer to the previous question,
but also I am wondering:
if i upgrade my alternator to 80A
and i run a new cable direct (no firewall terminal, probably 8 gauge wire)
will i fry my original ammeter or be asking for trouble ?
