High beams not working

Post by 15austin »

My headlights will only work on low beam. I just put on a new dimmer switch (on the floor) and 2 new headlights. The low beams work fine but when I switch it to high beams the headlights go out. Anyone know a solution? THANKS

If the switch is good (and new doesn't always guarantee good) and the headlights are good, then I'd say the high-beam wire is disconnected (not making contact) somewhere between the switch & the headlamps. Or somehow you're losing your ground when on High beam.

All this is assuming no one overhauled/rerouted the wiring in the past.

Headlights go out could be a short in the wiring blowing the circuit breaker for the headlights.

start by checking the plug in conection at the headlight switch on the dash. When the lights go out give it a wiggle and see what happens.

15Austin,

Have you resolved this issue, if so what was the problem/fix? I have the same problem, lights work fine then when i click the high beams (floor switch) the lights shut off.

No I have not tried to fix it yet. Ive been busy with non-working gauges, oil pan gaskets, timing chain, valve cover gaskets, aluminum intake. But it is in the garage now so I get on it this week.

Just fixed the problem. It was the high beam wire going into the fuse box under the hood. Just wiggled the wires and they came on.
These high beams has not worked in 9 years so I am pretty excited.
