Tire Size?

Post by BrowneBlue »

Greetings,
I am a new one to this site. I recently bought a 1967 D200 with 318/4spd. It is currently two shades of brown and one blue. I bought this to use for hauling stuff, pulling our '68 Forester and generally having fun! I plan to keep it all original. So, I am trying to find out the correct size of Bias-Ply tires it should have. It currently has 9.50X16, but that seems just too wide and they are dry cracked. Any ideas?
Thanks,Scott

Scott, :welcome

First off are they stock 16" rims? If so the rims should be 16X6's. Tires... 6.50 16's.

Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you have a Les Schwabs around where your at, they should have what you want. That's where I found the bias tires. Thumps and all. :Thumbsup

Tell us more about your truck and where ya from?

Thanks guys!
The cab on this truck is two tone brown. It was originally Fawn Beige? The box came off a '68 and is light blue. It has a pretty straight body except for some Central Iowa rust in places. It came with 4 different wheel covers, so, no, it does not have the original wheels. It had a camper body on it and still has a 'Cosmic Cavern' window sticker from the time they took it on vacation. It seems to run and drive fine, but I seem to detect some grinding while shifting it into second and downshifting into second. Bad synchros? It did come with a spare truck (68) with a clean grille and so I have another tranny.
It just looks to be fun. I've always been a C***y man and have a '55 3/4 ton to restore some day, but this came up and I just fell for it. Talk to you later, Scott

I can look it up to confirm, but I think the 6.50/16,
7.50/16 & 9.50/16 were all possibilities in '67. Where
are you in Central Iowa??.... I have family in the
Webster City area :Thumbsup

For the 16 x 5.50 wheel, there were 3 different tire
sizes.....6.50 x 16, 7.00 x 16 & 7.50 x 16 & for the
16 x 6.0 wheel, the listing is for a 6.50 x 16. The
7.50 x 16 tires on the 16 x 5.50 wheels were a fairly
common combination.

john, my 200 brochure lists 16x4.50 wheels with 6.5x16 6pr tires as stock. upgrade was a 16x5.5 with 7.5x16 8pr. for the camper special it lists 16.5x8.25 rims and 10x16.5 8pr tires all the way around. this is from a pie plate brochure, doesnt show a year :Thumbsup i know from my crew cab d200 that the 7.5x16 tires fit nice, fill the fender, and look a lot better then the 6.5's did. i was running 16x7 after market wheels though. white wagon spokes, look great, fit the style of the truck and only cost about $45 brand spankin new. LOL cant beat that.

All great help! Thanks. I think I may take a day off and find a junkyard or two. It has been FAR too long since I've done that. I'm a little different. I would like the Pizza Cutter Wheels. When I was a kid putting together models I would always throw out the wide tires and put on the stock ones. I know, 'he's sick!' LOL
Hey, where can I get one of those brochures? Are they selling them or are they really hard to find? Scott

Nothing wrong with likeing the stock look , as much as I change stuff on some things there has been some I have left alone because I liked the stock look over the modafied look as for the brochures, you have to look al around , if you have any major car show's comming your way , they have venders there who sell just this kinda stuff , seek & you will find

I'm a "stock look" guy myself. I run the 8R x 17.5
Yokohama "pizza cutters" on my '68 W200 and really
dig the stock look. If I were to go wider and use a
16" wheel, I'd get some 7.50 x 16" tires.... they're
just a bit wider & lower profile but look great in
the wheel wells..... just my opinion :2cents

I also like the stock look. It's what I grew up with too. Although I am considering some other wheels and tires on the 62 shorty.

Here my 64. No frill truck with 15 6.70 tires and wheels. Sorry fellas tires are from China.
