I know of at least one Aspen/Volare swap. Do some searching in the threads and it'll turn up. I personally wouldn't go that route; IFS is a VERY common topic - most common is grafting of a later model frame, some (Baddeeds) have even fabbed up mounts for Corvette front gear.

Here is one way to do it.

There was another truck where it was done slightly different with cutouts in the frame.

I am presently putting a 86 New Yorker K in my 68 Sweptline.

I am about 1/3 of the way there.

It looks like it will work with some work.

I'll post some pics and the process when I get finished.

Three words; Frame swap man! :Thumbsup Much easier than you think.

Refer to these links:

Or just search through the suspention threads like previously mentioned.

With the K-frame you will probably have to do some cutting or at least notching.

For the money the Aerostar swap might be the best if you want to keep your frame. Nobody has much information on it though and you might not want Ford parts on your truck either.

The other cheap method without cutting the frame would be to swap it on to a 72-93 truck frame. The wheelbase is 3 inches longer on these trucks but you could move the rear axle and make it work without cutting the frame.

With the amount of work you are going to be doing to your truck I'm sure you can make something work.

That's why the frame swap works so well. The front cab mount is the only difference really. They are longer, so you gotta use 'em, the Swepty cab isn't designed for the short mounts. You just remove the rivets from inside the frame and reuse the front cab mounts. The rears have to be moved, but that is even easier because you can move them once the cab is where you want it, meaning no measuring! :Thumbsup

The most "fab work" you'll do is in the steering. If you want fast and easy, you can reuse the later steering column. The length is perfect. You just have to notch the firewall, as the steering box on later trucks is out front. The other option (and the one I'm looking at when mine gets redone) is to use the stock column, and make an intermediate shaft with Boergson joints to connect the two.

Besides, it makes getting chassis parts easier in the future. No need to make a list of what car gave up what part.
