8 lug wheels 68 d 200

Post by roy »

Time for new tires and used wheels... Do chevy and or ford 8 lug wheels fit the dodge.. I thought all 8 lug were the same... I just heard from a friend that Chevy won't work... I am headed to pick and pull in Reno (a days outing from here) and I want to make sure I am getting the right wheel.... Thanks.... Roy

Older F*rd wheels work.... Ch#vies don't. If you ever plan on using
Dodge dog dish hubcaps.... I'd suggest finding some Dodge wheels.
There are two types.... ones that take snap-over caps and ones that
take snap-in caps..... which would be original equipment for your '68.
My '68 D200 came originally equipped with the 17.5" wheels and snap-in
caps. Standard wheels were the 16" ones. I run 16.5" Dodge wheels [from a '79 W200] on my '61 D200 with the snap-over caps.

Thanks for clearing that up. The orig wheels on this 68 are 16" split rims with the snap in hub caps you mentioned ( I have two left). I will look for Dodge wheels.... and as you probably could guess, when I replace the wheels and tires I am going to replace the bearings, seals, and brakes. I have never pulled the rear axils. My Mother in law had them done 23,000 miles/ 22 years ago at the dealership in San Diego... I'm sure I will post a question or two... Thanks again.... Roy

No big deal in pulling out the rear axles. You'll need a 2.125" or 2.25"
socket to back out the nut. Also, it is best to replace the nut keeper
after you've bent the tabs back to free up the nut. I pulled both axles
on my '61 D200 last year to clean up the drums and re-pack the bearings.
If you end up not needing those snap-in caps... let me know as I'm
looking for some.
