Swapping a Sway Bar -'70 D100

Post by PeterCrowl »

So...
I posted in the Parts Wanted section my need for sway bar links or bushings. I got the Mopar part numbers. These bushings are nowhere to be found. I contacted all the sources listed at Sweptline.com...I've called P.S.T. and Rare Parts ( which is the source of last resort per all the others - they do not have the bushings but are willing to try to size match..although others have tried to size match to no avail).
So...before I go further, I'm wondering if I should be considering swapping the sway bar to one with an available sway bar link.

The problem seems to be that the stock link has a huge - IIRC 1.5" - diameter bushing.

Does anybody have any thoughts on this? Suggestions for a sway bar to use?

Thanks - what a hassle!

Peter

Bushings

Peter,
http://www.espo.com by all the guys at the other .org site is where they have gottern theirs. Its actually called Springs & Things I believe. Their should also be some here in Denver. The owner of NorthGlenn Dodge has a lot of old Dodge's including and A100 & W100 that are fully restored to original. Call their parts department and ask for Bozie, tell him the Mopar Man from Walters sent ya!

Thanks! I found ESPO late this afternoon..by that time they were closed.
I'll call them tomorrow. I will try Northglen as well.
I really appreciate the help.

ESPO is not able to supply. They did shed light on the problem..apparently there are no listings because suppliers like TRW and MOOG never made them... they were a factory only part.
N.O.S. is the only hope.

Northglenn Dodge - Bozie put me on hold, then another guy picked up the line and said Bozie had asked him to help me. They have nothing to offer, but referred me to a dealer in Georgia who showed stock. That's more than I've gotten from others.

Jasper Jeep in Georgia - has good tunes on hold...They showed the bushings in inventory but the bin is empty.

There is no hope...save for Rare Parts doing a Match Up.
Looks like I'll have to find a sway bar with links that can be serviced and make the swap...then make up kits and wait for the next guy to post "Need Sway Bar Link Bushings" :o :? 8O <My version of Manny Moe and Jack>

I sure do appreciate the thoughts and suggestions though. Whoda thunk this would be the impossible part?

Peter,
espo told me 2 yrs ago that all they needed is the diameter of the bushing outside and inside hole, thats what they did for the Power Wagon owners did you also try http://www.autobodyspecialist.com ?

Butch Romig solves the puzzle!

Post by PeterCrowl »

In response to my post about sway bar links, Butch emailed me directly offering the links off a camper special is apparently keeps around for just this sort of thing.
His links, though, were as bad as mine. He then went on line and found a source for complete links with bushings. I bought the only two they had. It was VVAP who had them and I had contacted them...but looking for the bushings. I'd swear I asked about whole links but I must not have.
So...Thank You Butch !!!!!
And thanks to everybody who contributed suggestions . that's what makes these boards the most valuable asset we have!

Now - problem is - I got a pair but that does not solve the dilemma of others who will need these if not now then soon.

As they say over at http://www.Oldwoodworkingmachines.com ... Stay Vigilant!

It's Valley Vintage Auto Parts - I think the link is ww.VVAP.Com
I'm sure they'd have more if they could find more. The PS hoses had dealer tags on them from Minnnestoa.
