D200 Wheel & Tire Size

Post by patmcc70 »

I'm looking for replacement wheels/tires for a 1970 D200. I was thinking of the American Racing AR-23. Will a 16" x 8" wheel with 4 1/2" backspacing and 235/70 -16 tires work? If not, any suggestions on where to find 8 lug wheels? Thanks for the help!

I'm not sure what the back spacing should be, but the wheel size sounds right. I have 16X7 on my D200. Jim

i think the backspace you mentioned is too much for the front. it will rub the steering arm in a tight turn or the tie rod when installed. you can get away with 4" and a narrow tire up front. i believe the standard off the shefl back space of a 16x8 is 3.75 to 4" of back space. wich works fine with up to a 245/75/16. mine has 16x8's up front right now, when i have the wheels off for polishing, ill measure the back space. they have 235/85/16 tires, and if i had even 1/4 inch more backspace, they would be rubbing my tie rods right now. as far as the back goes, i have a 16.5x10 out back with 33x12.5x16.5 tires. they fit great with no rubs, even fully loaded.

Trey,

Did you ever get a measurement on front wheel backspacing?
I have a D200 and need to fit new tires and wheels on it. Dodge and Ford are the only bolt on swaps for me on 8 lug?

Merry Christmas!
