67 W200 locking hubs

I have just replaced one of my manual locking hubs on my 67 W200 because it blew apart when I was plowing snow, most likely because several of the bolts fell out or were sheared off on the hub. I took it apart about a month ago and now I am not sure where the large spring goes that came out of the assembly. It seems to work fine without the spring, so I am not sure if it is needed with the new hub. Can anyone tell me where it goes? I am trying to avoid ripping the drivers side apart to check.

Here is an excerpt from the '69 - '70 Service Manual. I'm not sure if it is the same. Quality re-prints of the factory service manual are readily available at a reasonable price. It'll be the best investment you can make in your truck.

Wrong Hub illustration. That is for the W100 internal style 69 to 71 front axle. The 66 W100 is very different.

Thank you for the post. It appears I will need to take the hub back apart and add the spring back in.
