New Tires, What Size am I Better off with?

Hello, My truck came with 17x7 rims with 235/65r17 tires mounted on it from the previous owner, I want a more original look, I picked up a set of original KH 15x6.5 steelies. I've been looking at what tire size I'm gonna run, I'm looking for all season road tires, no all terrains or anything unique. Size wise I narrowed it down to 235/75r15 OR 265/75r15. 235's are gonna virtually be the same tire as the one currently on it (235/65r17) it's just for a 15" rim instead. Would a 265 have a big sidewall stickin out on a 6.5" rim? Would they even clear the wheel wells? Maybe there's other sizes some of you may recommend that I might go with instead. :thinking

Thank you - LB

Found a nice Tire Size Comparison Calculator

uh, yes... just over an inch wider... is that 'big'?
Would they even clear the wheel wells?
Don't know, maybe also be concerned about tire rubbing the steering arm at full crank left turn.

On my '67 D100, the 235/75R15 tires look right to my eye and perform extremely well with no interference with any components. I run the Kumho MT51 on the rear axle as it's the only D rated tire I found in this size and I tend to overload the truck on occasion. I've found the all around traction to be excellent with this tire as well: great on unimproved dirt, good on dirt road, good in snow, and good on pavement, wet or dry.

Why did you pick those 2 sizes?

You are right about the 235/75R15 being pretty close in size to what you have now. If you want to go wider, then a 255/70R15 is also similar to what you have now, but nearly an inch wider. If the wheels are only 6.5" wide, I'm not sure you want to run a 265 tire or even a 255.

I believe someone said a 31x10.5 tire would fit and not rub anything on a stock sweptline.

31 10.50 is about the next size bigger then a 235/75
but should be on min. 8" rim 235/75 on a 6.5 is pushing it thinking 225/75 is optimal
i'm sure there is a chart some where

There are some sizes between those, but they aren't very common sizes. Most 31 inch tires are actually smaller than 31 inches.

I ran 30x9.50x15 tires on my Dodge Dakota. As I remember they were slightly taller than the 31x10.50x15 tires on a ford truck I had at the time. Both trucks had 8 inch wide rims.
I was always curious why.
