1965(?) Brakes and Tires

I may.(big emphasis on may) be buying what i belive to be a 1965 d-400. only question is. where do i get wheels and tires? don't these have the widow makers on them? if they do id like to get something...not as deadly. and secondly. brake shoes, drums, and hardware. i hear the shoes can be relined. but what about new drums? i was thinking of an axle swap but i cant find ANYTHING on this subject. any help will be appreciated

Split Ring and Split Rim are 2 entirely different styles. I suspect the D 400 has Split Ring visible while looking at rim.

New drums are unavailable. I happen to have rear drums, hubs, bearings, shoes, cylinders, springs, etc mounted on the backing plates that I kept from a D400 I parted. The truck had a complete brake job before I got it and they are like new. I sold the like new front drums, shoes, etc about 15 yrs ago.

If I recall correctly, last time I looked it was about $400 a pop.

I've been on this forum since inception in 2005 and 2 others since 2001. NOT ONCE has anyone ever done a 400 axle swap. That's uncharted territory. Good luck with it.
FYI, the sweptline registry has 2342 trucks listed. Only 24 are D400's (1%) and 3 of those were/are mine.

finding good used drums not too tough. two already posted here. I think its less work to just keep them stock. that rear diff will never die either.
