Disc brake sets for the Sweptline W100 and W300 trucks
Disc brake sets for the Sweptline W100 and W300 trucks
There seems to be a lot of confusion over whether I am still making brake sets for our trucks or not. About five years ago I had a serious heart attack that resulted in heart failure. Since I was 65 I retired but continued to supply brake conversions that I had already made to anyone who contacted me. I finally ran out of them about a year ago. Recently while cleaning out storage I found enough parts to weld up about 20 more M37/PW/WC3/4 ton brake sets Which I am currently doing. They will be the last that I make. I also have 20 sets of the W100/200 brakes for the dana 44 axle with 8 lugs.
Also I have redesigned the W300/M715 front disc brake set so that it will be easier to make. As soon as I am finished with the PW brake sets I will start developing the new set for the W300 trucks. They should be ready by this winter. The supply of original drums for the W300 dried up about 8 years ago so a disc brake set for it is critical. If you need to contact me my email is rsuiter@helitool.com
Regards, Ray

Thank you. When you are done, if you have the drawings, patterns, tooling, and supplier/services information, perhaps we should take up a collection and buy them? In the mean time, I wish you well.

@wildergarten
Have you ever heard any update from Ray Suiter? Almost one year and nothing. I sent an email resently. Anyone know Ray on a more personal level? Maybe a phone call can be possible. I wish him well with his health.
If there is a desire to take up collection to buy blue prints, I'm in.

Well that's too bad. I have a W300 and everything is riding on one dude who has abandoned his stated intentions.
So anyone suggest a specific axle front end that I should look to find? Wondering if I could keep the bell housing or does it all need to removed?

Based on older posts I have ran across on this & other sites, the guy's age is in the 70's & he moves in & out of the country some. He may have died or just hung it up for good.
Are you looking to replace your Dana 70F or just the brakes?
Your bellhousing question confuses me.

Re: Disc brake sets for the Sweptline W100 and W300 trucks
I was looking to convert it to disc brake since drums are no where to be found.
I last was in contact with Ray in think it was September October last year. He said he'd be working on developing kits, redesign over the winter. I didn't want to bug and annoy the guy, so I didn't try and contact him until week or so ago.

It is possible to reline drums with new metal, guaranteed to out-perform OEM... but last I checked, they're about $400 apiece.reallylongnickname wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 5:09 pmI was looking to convert it to disc brake since drums are no where to be found.

That can be done ya, but I understand it's not legal to do that.
Re: Disc brake sets for the Sweptline W100 and W300 trucks
Is there any update on this or has anyone been able to get into contact with Ray?

You might want to give Charles Talbert of M-Series rebuild in Norwood, N.C. a call. I know he provides complete restoration services and disc brake set-ups for the flat fender power wagons and he is a master at his craft. Worth a shot.

I'm not sure how the sweepline are built. This is a 58 w100 Dana 44 with the 6x7.25 bolt pattern. Easy to do. I have no machining experience. I bought a 100 year old garbage lathe for $150 off Craigslist. Made a adapter that is held to the hub by the wheel studs. The other side is a 12.5 inch Toyota rotor and f150 calipers. It all fits under a 16 inch budd split rim.
