Wheel Bolts vs. Lug Nuts

Post by Snowdog »

I'm having a heck of a time sourcing parts for my 61' D100, which has wheel bolts all around. All parts catalogs specify that my year used nuts.

When did Dodge switch from bolts to nuts on the wheels? The info I've seen has been murky, so it'd be good to know what the people really involved with D100s have found.

Thanks,

Somebody messed your truck up. It came from the factory with lug studs and nuts!

I have never seen a Dodge truck with bolts on the wheels - Ive owned and/or parted 42, 52, 55, 57, 59, 61-71, 79 and 96 trucks.

He is in Canada. Some have mentioned Canadian trucks used bolts instead of lug nuts on certain trucks. I have no more details but there may be some if you search this site.

Thanks,

Upgrade rear end assembly to a later one from a pickup. Bonus, No bolts or keyed drums. Front end you may be able to just get later drum/hub assemblies and bolt on.
My truck is younger than me.

My guess would be 64ish, I have a 63 that still has bolts, the 65 I have had lug nuts. If the rear axles are the same length, you could change out the axles, that also gets rid of the tapered drum. Front would be changing drums, but you probably will go with a disc conversion anyway.

My 49 uses wheel bolts. Same drum used until at least 1957. According to parts searches, 58-71 are the same front drums. Tapered/keyed rear axle and drums through 1964. 65-68 and then 69 through end of 8.75” axle production on the rear.

Are the search results right? Nope, our 1960 D100 used wheel bolts... just like the 49 has...
