1968 D100 brake drums and pads

Post by my5thmopar »

I have the donor 1968 8 3/4 diff that I'm going to rebuild to go in the 64 D100. I'll be adding a suregrip, new bearings etc. I had intended to keep the drum brakes but....I don't see the parts readily available locally. Should I be looking for a different model vehicle? I have another complete diff from a Chrysler Newport and it looks like the drums and pads were used on numerous vehicles and are available in stock locally. The Chrysler has larger drums and pads and I'm not sure what that will do to my wheels back spacing. (I do have front disks) If the D100 parts aren't available, then I'll just used the backing plates and hardware from the Newport. I'll go to disk if I have too but, I really don't think its necessary on a light end truck. Any suggestions? Thanks Craig

Looks like no change in back spacing and wheels will clear drums from the Newport. So what about drums for the 68? Anybody know where to get them? Craig
