I'm looking at buying a new set of 15" wheels for my '71 D100. Does anyone know the max backspacing I can use without running into problems on stock axle configuration?
Any tire size recommendations? I'm looking at 255/70R15.
All input is welcome before I throw down $$$$.

Re: Wheel Back Spacing
I know for a fact 78/79 Warlock/L’il Red Express wheels fit perfectly with LT31-10.5-15 on my 69 D100. Wideblock ran 31-10.5 and 33-12.5 on his trucks. 4-4.5” backspacing
That said...
1) Good kingpins and suspension bushings are a must, or even LT235/75r15 rub the pitman arm.
2) Make sure that your axles are in fact mounted parallel to the frame rails, and the backing plates are the same distance from the frame side to side. Dodges tended to be worked hard, regularly, and front shackles can get tweaked.
3) A long trailer shackle from Tractor Supply is a perfect match up front, and the nylon bushing inserts can be your best friend... my truck is going through that work while I’m adding a Scarebird disc conversion. Former moonshine hauler, isn’t a good bushing on the entire truck.
4) Rebuild your swaybar and endlinks. New bushings and bolts, 13/16” bar on half tons. Trust me, you’ll see a world of improvement. And fill the steering box with boat trailer grease. Even standing still, lock to lock either direction is one hand with zero effort.
Have fun, good luck, 295/60-15 fills the wheel arches better than 255/70 does.

If I didn't build it, it ain't mine.
