master brake cylinder fitting 60-66

Post by DeeOneHundred »

Installed new Raybestos brake master on the 66. Brass line adapter, of course, was not budging from the old master. Searched and searched local auto stores and all they had was short threaded at the line attachment. Desperate, I took the dreaded vise-grips to the old fitting and finally broke it loose. All scarred up and ugly i got it on the new one, but leaking a little. eBay search revealed a new fitting from 'motorcitymusclecar'. Kind of pricey but at least I found one. Might help others if they can't find one or don't want to cut and re-flare the line for shorter thread fittings.

I got a couple brass fittings from ace hardware years back for a master cylinder, still working today. you might try and see if they might have what you need.

Might have to. Got new fitting but looks too small. Need to try it on old master to see.

Check the brass gas/air fittings at Lowe’s or Home Depot. Same threads and seats as automotive fuel and brake line adapters. Been using them on tractors for years w/o leaks, fuel, oil and hydraulic lines.
If I didn't build it, it ain't mine.

Yep, too small on the master end. Got quick refund though. Currently the original seeps a little but will be ok until I work on it some more. Got DOT 5 so I'm ok with that.

Better to get the actual fittings instead of going to adaptors. Amazon has kits of tubing and fittings available particularly in nickel-copper. They also have tool kits for making the double flare. There are good videos on how to do it at YouTube.

I have the correct fittings.
