Hub assembly bent?
Hub assembly bent?
She’s coming along, as things get fixed she’s speaking up about other items. Actually becoming a very vocal old girl. 1964 D200 with 318 poly and 727.
Well the left front wheel locked up. Solid lock up when the brakes were applied. Got truck up on a rack and noted wheel turned a little forward then became very hard to turn, but moved freely in reverse. Things that make you go hmmm?
Wheel off, drum turn with a small amount of drag forward and no drag in reverse. But moves much easier without the wheel. This is odd now.
Pull the drum. Back shoe is worn, front shoe is dusty and looks new. Never saw that before. Spin the hub assembly and no drag with direction. But I notice a slight wobble. Position my self at the corner of the truck and spin it again, spins freely, no drag but a definite wobble that is consistently 1 wobble per revolution.
Bearing? Race? Spindle? Hub itself? Don’t know yet, will be able to say on Tuesday when I can tear into it more. Anyone wanna toss their thoughts in on this? At least I know it’s not the axle. Lol

Re: Hub assembly bent?
wheel cylinder corroded all to hell and front piston frozen in the bore.
hub bent - how the hell did that happen????

Re: Hub assembly bent?
Wheel cylinder has not a drop of corrosion on it. I swear. Can’t imagine how the hub got bent but she rotated like the spindle is bent and we all know the hub, not the spindle rotates.PwrWgnDrvr wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 9:55 pmwheel cylinder corroded all to hell and front piston frozen in the bore.

No corrosion "on" it, but what about IN it?DodgeJerk wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 10:59 pmWheel cylinder has not a drop of corrosion on it. I swear. If the front shoe is like new and not worn, then obviously the piston is not moving in the cylinder and pushing it against the drum.
Re: Hub assembly bent?
I agree with you. I can get back into it on Tuesday. Then I’m going to video what I find because I’ve never seen a bent hub before. But I am also curious as to why the one shoe is unworn and what’s causing the issue. I am leaning towards the idea of corrosion.PwrWgnDrvr wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2019 12:46 amNo corrosion "on" it, but what about IN it?DodgeJerk wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 10:59 pmWheel cylinder has not a drop of corrosion on it. The left rear is even more interesting. The drum was on over top the hub assembly covering only 1/2 the brake shoes on that wheel. As soon as I figure out how to post a pic here I’ll upload them for you.
Does anyone have the manual showing how to remove and reinstall the rear drums on this? I know it’s a specific process and the YouTube videos on the topic are poor at best. I don’t have a manual yet.

If that's the tapered rear axle (big nut on the end) do yourself a huge favor and find a later 8 3/4 to swap in. They're plentiful in the wrecking yards.

I’m scared to ask why your saying do myself a favor?PwrWgnDrvr wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2019 11:05 amIf that's the tapered rear axle (big nut on the end) do yourself a huge favor and find a later 8 3/4 to swap in. They're plentiful in the wrecking yards.

Re: Hub assembly bent?
I read the instructions for this. Damn, this might get my neighbors running into my garage, probably call 911 and just wait for the light show. Now I gotta give it a try, at least once and I’ll see if I can’t video the process.
Haven’t found a good video on this yet. Off to eBay to find a puller and thanks for heads up.

A D200 should have a Dana 60, so this probably doesn't apply.PwrWgnDrvr wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2019 11:05 amIf that's the tapered rear axle (big nut on the end) do yourself a huge favor and find a later 8 3/4 to swap in. They're plentiful in the wrecking yards.

Tnx Bill, I lost track of that!

Is the big shoe [the one with the most pad] on trailing side of the
backing plate with the smaller shoe [lesser pad] on the leading side?
