3 speed Steering Column Questions help please?

Looking for some knowledgeable assistance out there.

I am looking to swap my existing auto column in my 71 swepty to a 3 speed column which I intend to modify to a 5 speed column the information i am looking for is
1. does anybody have any diagrams drawings of the 69-71 3 speed column to show the workings so I can decide whether it is worth trying with this?
2. the 68 and earlier 3 speed column looks simpler to make work for 5 speed with the rod above the actual column. my questions in respect of going with this column are:
2.1 What is involved with installing this in a 71?
2.2 Does the 68 and earlier column have the 2 bolt plate that mounts to the floor plate like the 71
2.3 What is the diameter of the column tube ( in theory I could cut and weld to the 71 lower)
2.4 is the inner steering shaft the same length as the 69-71 or what length is it

Unfortunately due to my locale it's not that easy to find another one to go look at to take any measurements or view
