Another gear box question
Been a long time since I posted to the forums. I have been sucked into a different hobby, something the wife can do too.
On to the question. My gear box is worn out, but found a Saginaw 535 in a parts truck Ive had for awhile.I got the kit from Midwest Steering. After cleaning up the parts i found some pitting on the main gears. Didn't think they were to bad. Question is this. On the pitman shaft screw, how to tell when its tight enough? The one on the side cover. Thanks for bearing with me.
Here is the new hobby

Re: Another gear box question
65 views and no help. Well i got it installed and still seems to have a lot of play. I have turned the screw in and out with not much change. Think that may have been an exercise in futility.

Re: Another gear box question
No experience with this exact box in the D. But on my Cummins truck, Saginaw box, it can be tightened till the wheel won’t return to center while driving, then back off a little.

Re: Another gear box question
You could buy a readily available FSM reprint and read the exact step by step process to do it.
First thing I bought for my first W200 - in 1978! There was no internet then to waste other guys' time asking questions if u were to cheap to buy the manual.

Re: Another gear box question
search for "bishko". The reprints are better quality than the originals, yet exactly identical.
Re: Another gear box question
center the steering box, turn screw till it bottoms out, then just bare barely back it off, tighten lock nut. but box must be centered or you will deztroy the box
