Came home empty handed from Coker Tire

Post by my5thmopar »

I was traveling this week and stopped at Coker Tire in Chattanooga. I was going to buy new steel wheels for the 70 D200. I mentioned before that it has 16(Ford) and 16.5 mixed on it now. Tires are dry rotted and need replaced. The (Edited)245/75/16s rub on the power assist stuff. I'm not sure of the back space on the front but, I think they were 4inch. We couldn't figure out what the truck needed and I told the guy I would research more. I've been surfing the net for ideas but, really not sure which direction to go. I'm just looing for a useable combination on this truck. I don't need show wheels because the truck gets used. My local tire guy says 235/85/16 commercial tire load range E is the closest to a 7.50/16. He can still order 7.50/16 if I really want them. He suggested I stay away from the 7.50s if I'm using the truck for other than show. He doesn't sell wheels, their just a locally owned tire/repair shop. I've looked at tire specs and most stated for a 235 the rim should be 6-7 inch. I have no plans of a wider tire since I already know they will rub the steering. Comments or suggestions? Craig

I figured the 16s on a D200 would be a better fit.

Check out 215-85r16 or 205-80r16.

They are approx 1.5" narrower than your 245-70r16's. Same diameter.

Not hard to find tubeless 16 inch steel rims. Ford or Dodge 8 bolt fit right on. GM will need the center hole enlarged slightly. And its no big deal.
I have done two sets over the years. One set fitted to my 76 W 200 Dana60/60 and a set still on my 66 W100.
And the stock sized Dodge hub caps fit right on.
My truck is younger than me.
