Decided to get some new shoes for my truck. Wheels/tires just confuse the crap out me. 1970 d-100. The rear axle is flipped and the front has a leaf pulled. Choose 17" wheels in anticipation of a IFS swap someday. Its not a racer (slant 6) just a driver. Wheelsforless size 17x7
bolt 5x4.5
offset 0
backspace 4"
hub bore 83.06 mm
tire Nitto G2 235/45 17
Should I consider 17x8s instead?
So what is right/wrong and what have you done?

The 4 inch backspace could possibly cause some rubbing on steering components in a full turn. Many have used a 3.75 inch backspace on a 7 inch wheel but these were with 15 inch tall wheels. Maybe it will be fine. 7 inch wide vs. 8 inch wide is probably more of a personal preference than anything as long as there is room. If the backspacing is the same then the wider wheel will stick out an inch further.

I don't know the hub bore but it would be easy enough to measure.

I've got 15X7's on the front with 3.5" back space. Tires are 26" tall and have no rubbing issues with the OEM power assist hoses or any part of the fender. The 3.5 back space mimics the original wheels and the 7" wheel dose'nt come close to the fender top or lip in fact they look small.
My rear wheel and tire combo is 15X9" with 3.5" back space. tires are 275/60/15 which is 11.00" wide and 28" tall so it bowes out around the wheel and has no fender-well issues. The 3.5" backspace basically means the back of the wheel is even with the brake drum.
