Front springs sprung

Hey All,

Well I just got my new wheels and tires installed and I love them. Went with a big/little combo. Not a huge difference but enough to notice.

Well as I was installing the front tires I looked over at the shackles and they look flat against the frame.

It looks like my springs are flat and in need of re-arching. And I loved the slight rake the truck had. What do you all think? What kind of options do I have? Did a brand new 1968 D100 short bed sit level or did they have rake? All I want is an inch or two. Tires are 235/75-15" front and 265/70-15" rear, Coopers.
When I get a good photo of the truck with the new tires I'll post a shot. I think they fit the truck nicely.

Thank you one and all for any help,
Jimharold.

Not sure flat springs are all that bad.

Is your truck a slant 6 or V-8? If so, how many leaves are in your spring pack? I think most of them are flat to somewhat arcing in the opposite direction. That is at least with the 2WD trucks I've looked at.

If it rides, steers and looks ok then, I say leave it alone. :2cents

Wheels look great! I also plan on going white rims whenever I get to new tires. I was thinking Dulux69 rims for mine. What rims did you go with? My springs also look like yours. My truck is a 68, slant 6

Hey All,

I found this ad after a search and the springs look pretty flat.
ad for 69'.jpg
The truck has a 318 w/auto. And it has a 4 spring pack. I saw on the Eaton web site 5 or 4 packs are available. In +2 to -2 ride height shapes. The shackle still has some clearance upon closer inspection. Maybe new bushings and shocks and see how that feels?

The rims are US Wheels from Jegs. The Paint Ready Smoothie Wheel (Series 51) sizes 15" x 7" front and 15" x 8" rear. Then powder coated. After looking at them awhile I think I'll save up for beauty rings. That's a lot of white and the shine of the baby moon makes them look smaller than they are.

Sledgehammer if you would like more photos with better views of the tires in reference to the body, I can get those for you. All said and done I have close to $1000 in this outfit. Good thing I don't plan on changing for at least 5 years. Or until I burn off the rear tires. Which will likely happen first.

Talk at you all later,
Jimharold.

From what I have seen on D100s, 318s have a 5-spring pack and 6 cylinder trucks have 4. Just curious, when the truck is sitting in the driveway how far is the top of the axle from the bottom of your oil pan?

I'm planning on getting 275-60-15 for the rear and 235-70-15 for the front. Similar width to yours but looks like an 1 1/2 or so shorter. If you want to put up more pics of the wheels, that would be nice. Thanks

My trucks a 68 D100, factory slant6, short bed and has 5 springs up front and 4 on the rear (spring shop called it 4 over 1 on front and 3 over 1 on rear). Obviously springs could have been changed around over the years.
