Hi,

does anyone know if there is a special bleeding process with trucks that have the frame mounted booster master cylinder or is it the regular RR - LR - RF - LF process?

Also, there is a hose that runs from the frame mounted booster that vents (or sucks) in the cab. Mine is on the driver side next to the tank, what is the purpose of it and is there supposed to be a filter of any kind on it? After stop cranking the engine (non start) i can hear that thing gurgling for a couple of seconds and am assuming it's vacuum related.

Seems I gravity bled booster then to rr and lr wheels and fr and fl wheel on my D500. But I used a vacuum bleeder to finish it. Worked good as I was alone when done.

Does your D400 have a frame mounted vacuum tank? My W600 does. Also has a vacuum gauge in the dash hooked to it.

My 65 W500 didn't have the vacuum tank, but did have the hose up into the cab. Since that truck didn't run I can't tell you what the hose was for.

No vacuum tank, just a frame mounted vacuum booster/master cylinder combo that gets vacuum from the intake and has the mysterious hose going into the cab.

All trucks with Hydraulic brake booster under cab have hose up into cab. Air inlet filter for booster diaphragm on one side. I have seen them on D and W 200, My D300. On a D400 I wrecked years ago and on my 70 D500. :thinking :thinking

You wouldn't have any info on the air inlet filter, do you? maybe a pic? All i have is a rusty fitting sticking through the floor. thanks

Its pretty basic. About the size of a soup can, holes in the sides, filled with fiber similar to an oil bath air filter, stuck on the end of the pipe.
They put them inside the cab to keep from getting filled with water and dirt kicked up off the road.

Process is booster bleed, RR, LR, RF, LF, back to booster for final touch per the shop manual. My air inlet filter is attached directly to the frame mounted booster. One vacuum line to engine and another to reserve tank behind booster.
